MacWorth Island

Since it was 50 degrees today, we decided to take a family walk out around MacWorth Island. Calia in the Kelty pack on Kevin and Coda on the gentle leader with me. She could have been off leash, but we thought the frigid ocean might be too tempting. It was a beautiful day, nice to be outside in January and not be freezing to death!

Carrots=Success

So, we finished our peas trial on Tuesday night by giving peas with some cereal. Wednesday night we took off to let Calia "cleanse her palate." Last night, we introduced carrots. Once Kevin and I got over the horrible smell, Kev fed her and she ate with gusto again. And this was after finishing a big meal from mommy! It's funny, Calia is such a watcher...she just takes everything in. When I opened the jar and smelled the carrots, she was watching my reaction. So, I smiled and said yummy! Guess she bought it. Yesterday, we also had a late lunch with Amy and Ben Farb (baby Ben will be 3 weeks on Saturday). While Calia sat on my lap grabbing at everything in sight, Ben slept the whole time...ahh the good ol' days!

Peas and no internet at home

On Saturday, Calia started eating solids. Her first venue was peas and she loves them (now if only Kevin would try peas). She has had them for the last 3 nights and success! And now she has these amazingly nasty poops, which she thinks are hysterical. I have some great pictures, but our internet access at home is on the fritz. I'll download them once Time Warner comes to fix the problem or Kevin figures out a solution. One more night of peas tonight, mixed with a little cereal for good measure, then it's on to carrots! Good Times.

A growing girl

Another week has flown by and Calia continues to change and amaze us! She has been fighting an cold for awhile, so I took her in to be seen at Kevin's request. We decided to treat her with some Amoxicillin for a sinusitis (just based on the length of sickness beign 2 1/2 weeks). It hasn't made too much of a difference, probably becuase she's just viral, but it's fun to watch her try to gargle the medicine instead of swallowing it! The blowing of raspberries has gotten out of control, it's her favorite thing to do food or no food in the mouth. Calia is obsessed with glass. She licked the outside of my water glass, and found her way to the rim, where she continued to lick and took a couple sips. And wine glasses, forget about it, she tracks them with her eyes and screams if you take the glass out of site, same with beer botles... We may have a future wild child on our hands. Eating is progressing slowly, we are up to 5-6 bites before she starts to blow raspberries and laugh. We are going to start veggies this week, maybe that will help keep her attention. Oh, and fully dressed (sweater, jeans, t-shirt and diaper) at the sick visit she was 15 lbs, but without any clothes at my grandmothers last weekend she was 14.5 lbs.

We just got back from a long weekend "downeast" visiting Calia's Great Gram and Great Grampa Jack. She loved having new people to show off for. Some of her newest tricks are blowing kisses, blowing raspberries (especially fun with a mouth full of food), sucking on her toes, playing peek-a-boo (she's mastered this one, she will cover her face and wait for you to ask "where's Calia?" before pulling the blanket down to reveal herself), giggling at anything(especially herself, with mommy and daddy running a close second), scooting around the room on her back, and sitting alone for up to 30 seconds at a time. She is still not too interested in rolling from back to front, too busy moving around the room on her back! Tonight when I put her down to bed, she was still awake and grabbing at her mobile, guess it's time to lower the crib mattress. We also took Calia to meet her great, great aunt Ruthella. Calia made quite an impression, and she got to see a cat for the first time. She had this look on her face watching the cats walk around. I think she was thinking "kind of like Coda, but smaller, and faster, and fluffier". It was a wonderful weekend. I hadn't ventured "downeast" since 1994. Unfortunately, it was icy and rainy all weekend, so Kevin didn't take the 4-wheeler out. I'm sure we'll be up again soon, so Kevin can play!

Allergy Free!!

All of Calia's bloodwork has come back and she is allergy free. She was checked for almost all foods, including milk, wheat, rice, seafood and all nuts, dog and cat (good news for Coda), and all molds/dust. So, her episodes of vomiting after eating were nothing, unless she's got an eating disorder? And that horrible rash on her chin, guess it's just from the drool from teething. Good news all around! She ate her rice cereal last night with gusto...guess it's time to start adding fruits and veggies. Now, if only those teeth would make an appearance!

Teething, food allergies, and more

Well, It appears Calia may have food allergies. I am taking her for testing today, UGH!
She is full on teething, poor thing has sores on both hands from sucking/chewing on them. She's a drooly mess. Otherwise, she's as cute as ever, talking up a storm. More later...
