Calia's favorite TV show is Dora the Explorer, she loves it. Anything Dora and Calia is infatuted. This morning when the theme song started Calia started dancing, so I rewound the DVR grabbed the camera and made this video. Of course, Calia spotted the camera and got a little camera shy, and Coda had to get into the shot, but I think you get the idea!

12 Month Well Visit

So, we just got home from Calia's 1 year checkup...her stats are...

Length: 29" (50%)
Head: 17.75" (50%)
Weight: 17 lbs 12 oz (5%)

About a month ago, she was only 17 lbs. I'm so proud, we've worked really hard in the past month to gain those extra 12 oz. Must be all those extra pudding cups. She got 2 shots...Comvax (hib/hep combo) and Prevnar, which finished 3 series of shots!! She cried during the first shot , but by the time the second one went in, she was fine. Only 2 more shots at her 15 month check, then we are done until Kindergarten, except yearly flu shots, of course!

Love Bites

Yesterday at school, Calia was bit by a classmate. Actually, the write up from daycare sated..."Calia was playing with a friend, and was biten." Kevin 's first comment was what did she do to deserve it. Daycare won't tell us who did it. It didn't break the skin, but we can tell that the culprit has 5 teeth, because there are 5 little bruises on her arm. This morning when I dropped her off, I was sizing up all of her classmates. Poor Bubba!

Update

It's been a crazy week since our return from VT. We had a great week...great time visiting with Kevin's family, while some of mine came over to visit as well. We took the gondola up Mt. Mansfield on Calia's b-day, spent a day walking around Burlington, visited Ben and Jerry's, hung out by the pool, played some good air hockey, had a couple b-day parties (Calia, Bruce, Shelly), the men golfed, Shelly and I got massaged (tired muscles form carrying around kids!), and biking, of course there was biking.

The day after we got home we had 60 people over for Calia's 1st b-day party. Good times. Last week was spent trying to get back into the groove of life. This past Saturday, we went for a family bike ride and walked around the Old Port. Sunday, Calia went to her first big girl Birthday party at the Children's Museum for Avery Mae who is now 5! Calia loved the toddler play area, especially the air cylinder that keeps the ball floating in the air. Calia had no use for the floating ball and batted it out of her way before climbing up and putting her face into the air. Her hair was blowing in the wind and she was laughing hysterically. After the party, we headed to Gray to the Stuables for the baptism party for Ray Ray. Calia was a bit punchy since her nap was cut short, but after a quick meal of beer bread, she realized she had a audience and was fine. Anyway, on to another week...

It's Party Time!

Calia's 1st Birthday party was yesterday. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm, not too hot. We had a birthday cake moon bounce for the bigger kids, which was rockin' all day, so I'd say it was a hit. Calia held up pretty well and took a 3 hour nap after! I can't believe our little peanut is 1. Where did that year go?

So, we are back from our week in Stowe, Vt which included...drum roll please...Calia's 1st B-Day! I will blog more about our week tomorrow or Monday, but here is a picture for her eager fans!

This morning while dropping Calia off at daycare, I witnessed quite a scene. Griffin (usually one of Calia's best buds) was playing happily, so Calia went over and attempted to take his toy. Griffin wouldn't let go, so Calia hit him, not just a little tap, a full blown bitch slap. I said Calia, in my sternest voice, (which usually she laughs at). She looked up at me and started to cry hysterically. Griff of course dropped the toy and went onto something else, but Calia carried on crying for 5 minutes. I told her that was not ok and she would have no friends if she acted like that. Eventually, I picked her up and gave her a kiss. Vanessa (one of the girls in her room) said, "Yup, that's Calia she definitely wears the pants in this room". Of course as a mom, I'm mortified that my child, my precious princess would act like this. Wonder where she gets this temper?

I haven't written on the blog in a bit, because not too much else is new with us. Calia still has 2 teeth, still climbing, pulling, standing/walking with help (doesn't seem to interested in walking alone, which is fine with Kev and I). Still using Coda as her personal jungle gym, still sleeping like a champ (12 hrs last night). Saying more...dada, hida (Coda), papa, yaya, and her jargon, still no mama, although she knows who I am because when I ask where is mama, she hits me in the chest and laughs.

She's such an animated little girl. This morning after wolfing down her mandarin oranges and chomping on some toast, she made an eek noise. So I asked her, "are you a monkey?" She shook her head no, then I asked..."who's a monkey? " She said, "Dada." I said, "Really, Daddy's a monkey?" She started shaking her head yes and laughing hysterically. Too funny, sorry Kevin.

I can't believe she is going to be one next week. We are celebrating her birthday week by going to Stowe, VT. We've rented a house. Kevin's family will be there as well staying at their place at the Trapp Family Lodge, so Calia will have Jeremy, Abigail, and Declan around to party with. Rock on!

Dinner Picnic at MacWorth

Last night was just to nice to eat dinner at home, so we headed out to MacWorth Island with a dinner picnic. Coda played in the water, while we ate our dinner on our neat sheet. It's always cool at our house being close to the coast, but it was 10 degrees cooler right on the water. There as a little Pug who kept trying to join our family fun. Kevin and I keep saying we need to do more things like this, it just seems like there is always something else to do. I think now that Calia is almost one and we see how quickly the year has past, maybe we'll be more likely to do these little things that mean so much.

Wheel of Fortune

Last Saturday night, while Kevin was off hiking and I was cleaning up after dinner, Calia was in the living room and got quiet...a dead sign (usually) that she has gotten into something. I checked in and found her watching wheel of fortune in awe. It was adorable, everytime someone got a letter and they would all clap, so did Calia. She laughed at the wheel when it spun and watched in amazement as Vanna lit up the letters. This may be better than Baby Einstein!

My Little Monkey

You can't tell, but her bath towel is a monkey. I didn't know monkeys growled? Bubba is 100% monkey, climbs over/under everything like a monkey, grabs at everything like a monkey. I laugh and think of the BNL song that says..."haven't you always wanted a monkey?" YES!

Tonight we went to the Yarmouth Clam Festival with our friends Tim, Brenda, and Lily (age 3). After eating some food, we dodged across the parade route and went toward the rides, which was great becuase everyone was watching the parade, so no lines! After watching Lilly and Tim go on the big Ferris Wheel, it was Calia's turn to ride the Merri-go-round. After the first few times around and a death grip on my arm, Calia loosened up a bit and was enjoying riding the horse up and down, while going around and all the pretty lights! She was also very interested in turning around to watch Lilly who was riding behind her. We ran into a few of Calia's day care buddies and some friends we hadn't seen in a while (Congrats Christine and Brian on your new addition in 2/07). Kevin and Coda are going hiking/camping tomorrow near Mt. Washington (NH) with some friends, so it will just be Calia and I this weekend...fun, fun.

1st trip to Old Orchard Beach

I'm on vacation this week, so yesterday Calia and I headed down to OOB to meet up with my dad on his day off. Calia liked it for a bit, but since her morning nap was cut short (20 min on the trip down), she got crabby and sleepy by 1pm. In fact, she slept from 130 when we got in the car...through getting home and transitioning to her crib...through her 430 crying bout and diaper change...then on me until 5pm. That's one tired Bubba. Thankfully, it didn't interfere with her 11-12 hour sleep at night. That girl loves her sleep...Thank God!
